"Children Quotes"

There are two quotes that I enjoy reading :

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember,Involve me and I will learn"  Benjamin Franklin

" There is in very child a painstaking teacher so skillful that obtains identical results in all children in all parts of the world"  Maria Montessori

Assessing Childern

An assessment in public schools only focus on cognitive even for three and four year old student. As a pre-k teacher I believe it is important that children are assess in all domains  and they are assess in the proper way. I believe that the teacher or assessor should have the correct assessment tool and the assessment should be on the child age- developmental level. An assessment should not just be geared on one domain but all developmental domains emotion-social, physical- gross motors and cognitive especially for young 3/4 yr old children. Just assessing in one area will not give you a clear picture of the whole child. I think as children get older that is when  we should begin to look more closely at one area for example public school(kinder).   I believe we need an assessment in our daycare centers and pre- schools because it gives a teacher a starting point for a child and provides information on a child's strength and weakness. The  reason is because an assessment could be shared with the other teachers and passed on as the child moves on and gets older.  Overall an assessment helps the overall growth and development of a child.
In Hong Kong children are assess by a standardize test called "Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority" the test is designated to measure a child's knowledge and skill. Hong Kong has recently went under an education reform and have adopted a new assessment entitle "School Based Assessment" this assessment primary goal is to assess the students by one written examination and to help validate the previous assessment.

The stress on a child

I work in Houston TX in an very low economic area the part of Houston I work in is called 5th ward. Fifth Ward is the part of Houston that is truly poverty. Children are rearing themselves because  parents is on drugs or in jail. I have to conduct home visit on the children in my class, some of the home i enter is really scary. It is not suitable for children to leave. Lights are off, children are sleeping on the floor and food what is food. Some children don't eat until they get to school. On Friday's the Houston Food Bank comes to the school and provide the children with food to take until Monday and they return to school. At the beginning of each school years the other teachers and I pass out uniforms to each child because the parents cannot afford to buy uniforms. Because of its stress children are not pro forming at their best.
A county that also have similar poverty problems is Niagara children are lacking food and education and parents are dead or sick or out of work. The country has gotten a little better but there are still alot of children suffering. Poverty can affect a child emotionally socially and mentallyy no matter what part of the world they are in.

"Immunizations Thats Important"

One public health topic that is very important to me is immunization. Immunization is important not only for the people within the United States but also around the world. Without vaccines  children would not have chance at a better future. Immunizations stops the spread of diseases and provides a sense secure.  According to the  CMDC" Immunzing individual children protects the health of our community".
I belive if we could help thrird world countries likes Africa and other countries provide immunzations to children around  the world  they will also have a chance at a better future. As an early childhood teacher I one of the requirement before a child can enter into school they must be immunzed. Staying immunzing help protect our children and our community.

The Birth Of A Child

I have been pregnant three time and  as a mother each pregnancy is special. With my first child I was excited, scared and happy. When I became pregnant with my second child  I experience some complications bleeding for two months, encountered a car accident during the pregnancy and after going to the doctor I found out that I was bleeding from one of my tubs and the baby was in my tub. At that time  I had to receive emergency surgery and found out that I had lost my baby. I was so upset and confuse I then went into a state depression  not eating, didn't want talk  to anyone, or be around any one .Then three years later I found out that I was pregnant again and I was so happy. I chose this example because  that is something that many women have to deal with each and every day around the world and with out proper medical treatment a person could died. The birth of a child is important and special with out proper medical treatment a mother can damage their child. It is very important during pregnancy that a mother visit the doctor regularly because it can have a long  term effect on their child's development. In Sierra Leonean babies are delivered by midwife's and medical professional if the mother is close to a hospital. Women are die ding during child birth because of lack of medical equipment, under staff, and lack of medicine and a lot of mothers are giving birth from the home.
I have learn with out proper medical treatment in any country it will affect a child's development in the long run.

The Three Most NAEYC and DEC Code of Ethics

The three most  significance code of ethics to me  are:

I-1.1-To be familiar with knowledge and base of early childhood care and education to stay informed through continue education and training.
It is important for me as an early childhood educators to stay informed of what is going on in the field. It is also important for educators to learn new and invade ways to work with young children.

I-1.10- To ensure that each child's culture, language, ethnicity and family structure are recognize and valued in the program.
We live in a diverse world and we as a society should respect each person culture, language, family structure and ethnicity. Young children needs to feel that they are accepted and wanted. In my classroom I have a family tree where the students bring pictures from home of their families and place them on the tree. The class and I share about our families. Each learning center in my class is represented with books, pictures on the wall around the room and music of not only the ethnicity of the students in the classroom but also other ethnicity from around the world.

P-1.10 When another person tell us of his or her suspicion that a child is being abused or neglected,we shall assist that person in taken appropriate action in order to protect the child.
We as adults are suppose to protect children it is very important to me that we as early child hood educators  protect young children and fight for their rights.Child abuse is a very serious issue in our society today. I will report any physical or emotional abuse against children and will assist the person who informed me of the abuse to a child through the entire process. Child abuse is another important issue to me.
